What is PPID360?

PPID360 is a web based system allowing members of staff to simply query complex Patient Administration/ Management Systems (PAS/ PMS) and print a unique identifier for the Patient. This unique identifier could be a traditional Patient Wristband, Theatre Patient Label or a novel RFID bracelet.

PPID360 is the latest generation in systems providing Positive Patient Identification in Healthcare Organisations. At the very heart of every Organisation providing Healthcare to the public is the ability to know who you are treating and feel confident that a mistake has not occurred.

This is where PPID360 comes in.

PPID360 ensures the Patient is Positively Identified as soon as they enter the Healthcare establishment and continues to be positively identified as they travel through their Healthcare journey until they are discharged.

PPID360 is an easy to use web based system which integrates seamlessly into the many different and sometimes complex Healthcare systems containing Patient information.

But doesn’t my Hospital Patient Administration System do that?

Yes and No; but it is not as intelligent as PPID360. The PAS simply prints Wristbands on demand whereas PPID360 knows how many Wristbands have been printed, by whom and why.”

PPID360 is also accessible due to the fact it is Web Based and very simple to use. The PAS and PMS are the exact opposite due to the fact they are often run as a Terminal or Installed program on a PC. They are also complex as they offer far more functionality than PPID360 which means they take longer to train staff on a very common task.

By using PPID360 the Hospital can extend the printing of Wristbands to other members of staff who would not normally have access to the PAS. In effect PPID360 hides the complex and functionally rich PAS system behind a simple to use interface that can be used anywhere from PC’s to Apple iPad Tablets.

Does PPID360 replace PAS? PPID360 perfectly complements a PAS by working in harmony with it. The PAS does a very important job within the Hospital. It is the “Oracle” of all the information held about that Patient. PPID360 integrates seamlessly with the PAS and provides a “final mile” solution for printing Wristbands and Patient identifiers into every area within the Hospital or Clinic. Because it queries the PAS in real-time it means PPID360 has the most up to date information about the Patient we are going to identify.

Why does my Hospital need to do this?

The simple answer is you have to.

In the UK the Department of Health has recently added
to the list of never events
that must never happen to you
whilst you are in Hospital – one of these additions is you
must never be misidentified as a Patient. PPID360 ensures
you are not misidentified.

The other reason to invest in PPID360 is due to the
explosion of Patient Identification Barcodes all over the
Hospital. The Hospital must now be careful they are not
Positively Identifying a
Case-note or a Label on a Blood Unit
rather than the Patient. PPID360 ensures the Wristband is
scanned and not something else.

Benefits to patients

The main benefit to Patients is being identified with the most up to date information on their wristband so that healthcare related activities are being performed on the correct patient. A Hospital uses wristbands to both read with the human eye and to barcode scan for electronic identification. This means better Patient outcomes are achieved because the Patient is identified.
