Cloud Based Temperature Monitoring System

The Challenge
A modern day Hospital Laboratory or any Laboratory for that matter must monitor the temperature of its high value Assets such as Blood, Samples or even Evidence and to do that it must have a reliable temperature solution.
This solution must monitor from an audit point of view a range of temperatures from room temperature to refrigerated temperature to frozen and even cryo temperature. To do that it needs a temperature solution, like Temperature360, that can cope with many different temperature ranges that can both report on temperature and alarm on temperature change.
Lets consider the storage of Blood Products in the UK. The Blood Safety and Quality Regulations 2005 state the following:
- Red cell preparations and whole blood (if used for transfusion as whole blood) must be stored @ +2 to +6°C
- Platelet preparations @ +20 to +24°C
- Granulocytes @ +20 to +24°C
Each type of product needs to make sure there is an auditable log of temperatures that can historically be accessed for regulatory and inspection purposes. The system must also alert the Lab if there is a breach of these temperatures so that corrective action can be taken.
On top of all these requirements the Lab also has to contend with different types of temperature to be monitored from Room Temperature to Cryo so the solution must have the ability to work in many different environments.
The Solution
“The solution to the Laboratory temperature challenge is the cloud platform called Temperature360.“
Temperature360’s pedigree is the fact it evolved out of the powerful Blood360 and Sample360 cloud solutions used around the world by different healthcare organisations. These cloud solutions needed a temperature element to their audit and tracking engines which helped produce the stand-alone product called Temperature360.
Temperature360 provides the following to the modern Lab.
- 24/7 live monitoring of temperatures across many different cabinets and areas including Fridges, Freezers and even delivery vans transporting human product
- Auditable and historical storage of temperature easily accessible for review and inspection by regulatory bodies
- Multi point temperature recording in a single cabinet – for example: top, middle and bottom temperature monitoring in a fridge
- Air temperature monitoring and fluid core temperature monitoring is available which is especially useful for Blood Bags
- Coolbox temperature monitoring for transport both for Live data and Data logging – customers have used this for Humans Samples sent through the post!
- Live temperature monitoring of logistics vehicles
- Easy to view Dashboards with multiple alerting options including WhatsApp messages
- Automatic reporting including reports sent automatically via email as set intervals

How our temperature monitoring system works
Temperature360 is a cloud solution and so it is available 24/7 constantly receiving temperature updates from a range of authorised temperature and environment sensors.
The temperature data arrives via a number of different methods including collecting data from mobile devices such as Apple or Android phones through to specialist Internet of Things (IoT) gateway hubs that monitor a collection of environmental monitors.
The Temperature360 environmental monitors can collect Temperature but they can also collect a variety of other things such as Humidity and G-Force impacts. They can also tell Temperature360 if they are moving or not with the G-Force sensors.
Temperature360 can also be extended to include GPS location logging which is particularly useful for logistics temperature monitoring.
These sensors vary in size but most communicate with Temperature360 using the very latest Bluetooth BLE technology which means the are truly wireless with average battery life expectancy of 2-3 years. Don’t worry as Temperature360 will warn the life that the battery is about to expire and they are easily replaceable.
A typical Blood Fridge would contain 3 x Temperature360 environmental monitors setup to monitor fluid core temperature. The environmental sensors have the following characteristics:
- Size: 70.6×38×17.8mm
- Weight: 37.5g
- IP66
- Alkaline battery, 1000mAh, 3 years
- The temperature range is -40 to 70°C with a typical accuracy of ±0.3°C
- 100m range
Temperature360 Benefits
Multiple Storage Containers
Temperature360 supports a large number of different storage cabinets with different temperature monitoring solutions available. These cabinets range from Fridges to Freezers to Cool-boxes. Contact us if you have any unusual needs for temperature monitoring as we will normally have a solution for you.
Dashboards and Reporting
Temperature360 is supplied with a powerful Business Intelligence engine which provides a number of Dashboards and Reporting options. The Dashboards provide LIVE information and the reports can be setup to run automatically at intervals and notify you when they are ready.

Cloud
Temperature360 just like its siblings in the MSoft360 portfolio is a Cloud solution. This means it benefits from low start-up costs and it is very scalable. The system is available 24/7 from anywhere in the world.
Alerting
Temperature360 is designed to alert the user when one of the cabinets begins to breach its range of acceptable temperatures. It can be setup with tolerances and a count of breach which allows you to deal with anomalies. The system is also able to alert you using a number of different mechanisms including email and messaging apps like WhatsApp.
